Library Regulations

  1. Patrons may bring bags and personal belongings into the Library. However, the Library reserves the right to restrict any items deemed inappropriate or unsafe. Library staff may conduct inspections when necessary to ensure compliance with safety and security measures. The Library is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bags or personal belongings.

  2. Food and beverages are not permitted in the Library, except for plain water in containers with lockable caps. Eating and drinking, other than plain water, are strictly prohibited.

  3. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the Library. The prohibition of smoking under this subsection shall cover all tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, tobacco leaves, and smokeless tobacco, as well as electronic devices such as vape or e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

  4. A quiet environment must be maintained in the Library. Mobile phones must be set to silent mode. Talking on mobile phones is not allowed and patrons must use earphones for audio or visual content.

  5. Patrons must be appropriately attired. Patrons are required to dress in accordance with the UTAR Dress Code.

  6. All Library materials must be checked out before being taken out of the Library. Theft and vandalism of Library property constitute serious offences and are subject to University disciplinary action.

  7. Littering is prohibited.

  8. Seat reservations are not permitted. Items left unattended for more than 30 minutes may be removed by Library staff. Library is not liable for lost or damaged belongings.

  9. Only notices approved by the Library may be posted on Library notice boards.

  10. Patrons must exit the Library via the designated gate equipped with a security system. If the security alarm is triggered or when required, Library staff may inspect materials, bags or personal belongings.

  11. Patrons who photocopy materials are fully responsible for any action arising from any contravention of the Copyright Act 1987.

  12. Any disorderly or improper conduct or contravention of the Library's regulations will render the patron liable to be suspended from the use of the Library, and where appropriate, further action, disciplinary or otherwise, from the University Management.

  13. Patrons must report lost ID cards to the Library immediately to prevent misuse. Patrons are responsible for all items checked out under their account.

  14. Patron ID cards are non-transferable and must not be used by others. Patrons must present their ID card upon request from Library staff.

  15. The University may without notice amend or introduce new rules whenever deemed appropriate.
