a) Library Catalogue (OPAC)

The library catalogue is a register of bibliographic items available in the library. UTAR Library's online catalogue provides the records of all materials available in the collections of both UTAR libraries. The bibliographic records will indicate the call numbers, location of items and availability of items.

b) Internet Access

The Library is equipped with computers to allow easy access for patrons to check their emails, surf the internet or access online databases.

c) Wireless Internet Access

The Library is equipped with wireless networking technology to allow library patrons easy access to the internet via their laptops or PDAs. Thus providing convenience and flexibility. This service is free of charge for UTAR staff and students.

d) Ezproxy / Remote Access Service

EZProxy is a remote access service available to all current UTAR students, faculty and staff who wish to access the subscribed databases and journals remotely. All patrons are required to login with their ID numbers and passwords.

e) Reference Service

The Library provides reference and research asistance to students, faculty and staff. This service is available at the Reference Desk where professional librarians are available to provide advice or via email at

f) Photocopying Service

A card operated photocopy service is available at the Library. Cards can be purchased at the Circulation Counter. Library patrons, who photocopy materials, are fully responsible for any action arising from any contravention of the COPYRIGHT ACT 1987.

g) Discussion Rooms

Discussion Rooms are available for group study anddiscussions. However, noise from discussions should be kept to an acceptable level.

h) Lockers / Cubicles


There are open cubicles and lockers at the entrance to the Library for the storage of bags and personal items.

A limited number of day-use lockers are provided free to all library patrons on a first-come, first served basis. Locker keys can be obtained from the Library staff at the Loan counter. Student's ID will be retained until the key is returned. Students who lose the locker keys will be fined RM20 for the replacement of lock and key. Any items left overnight will be removed and placed in the "Lost & Found" section. The library will not be responsible for loss of any items kept in the lockers.
